Ripstop material in hammocks and tarps
Hammocks and tarps crafted from ripstop material are considerably more tear-resistant than those made from traditional woven fabrics. Many renowned manufacturers of ultra-light tents and outdoor equipment utilize this extremely lightweight fabric, created using a distinctive weaving technique.
So, what makes Ripstop technology unique?
Ripstop is a special kind of woven nylon or polyester fabric. The threads are interwoven in a crosswise manner so that if a small hole does appear, the tear doesn't spread across the entire fabric like a 'running loop'. Instead, it's halted by the next thread's crosswise reinforcement.
This ensures:
• High tear resistance
• Long lifespan for your hammock
• Safety
AMAZONAS Ultra-Light hammocks and tarps are made from two different thicknesses of Ripstop material, which means they possess different characteristics. Based on these differences, we categorize our products into the TRAVELLER series and the ADVENTURE series.

Here's how you can prevent holes from occurring in the Ripstop material. Be cautious of:
• Flying sparks from a campfire
• Sharp branches, thorns, and rocky outcrops
• Sharp objects in your clothing or backpack
• Children biting your hammock (speaking from personal experience with my son! ;-)
How to repair a small hole in the Ripstop material:
Small holes do not pose a significant risk to your safety, as the Ripstop material minimizes the chance of larger tears. However, it is always best to seal the hole as soon as possible.
• For small holes, adhesive patches designed for nylon or polyester can do the trick.
• Larger tears should be sewn, and additionally reinforced with an adhesive patch.
